Couch was born near Liverpool, England, and was trained as an aeronautical
engineer. He is entirely self-taught, never having had a formal art lesson.
His historical marine paintings are full of exacting detail. He expands beyond mere
draftsmanship to impart creative, fluid visions of the sea and superb compositional
arrangements. Couch believes that yachts and ships must be painted as they were
built, in layers from the keel up. The paintings are developed slowly and
methodically. His long term goal as an artist is to tell the history of big class
yachting in England and America. Couch lives on the Isle of Wight, the world famous
center of yachting. His paintings hang in private and corporate collections
worldwide.
