Caulfield's style has been hailed as emblematic of American Impressionism
with a
unique primitive quality that is entirely his own. The largely self-taught artist
counts the French Impressionists; World War II combat
Illustrators, such as Reginald Marsh; and artists like John Sloan of the American
Ash
Can School as his major artistic influences. At the age of six Caulfield was
drawing with chalk on the inner-city streets of
Depression-era Roxbury, Massachusetts. Always painting and exhibiting in his
spare time, for many years he worked a "regular" job to support his wife and
five
children. After garnering a number of awards in the art world he now
devotes full time to his craft. His work hangs in private and public collections
worldwide. Caulfield is based in Woodstock, Vermont. He is an elected member
of
Boston's prestigious Copley Society.
